As a Family Nurse Practitioner committed to delivering safe, effective, and ethical care, I’m proud to offer medically supervised weight management services right here in North Carolina. With rising concerns around obesity and its impact on chronic disease, personalized clinical oversight can make all the difference.

Let’s walk through what responsible, compliant weight loss support looks like today — especially for those enrolled in *Medicare, **Medicaid, or considering **FDA-approved medications* for weight loss.

🩺 Is Medical Weight Loss Right for You?

Medical weight loss programs differ from fad diets or over-the-counter supplements. We start with:

•  A comprehensive intake assessment

•  Bloodwork and metabolic screening

•  Review of current medications and medical history

•  Lifestyle review (nutrition, activity, stress, sleep)

•  Shared goal-setting and long-term strategy planning

We prioritize *whole-body wellness* and *sustainable outcomes*.

✅ North Carolina’s Scope of Practice for NPs

In North Carolina, Nurse Practitioners must operate under a *collaborative practice agreement with a supervising physician*. All treatment protocols — including prescribing weight loss medications — follow strict guidelines:

•  Your care is *overseen by a licensed physician*

•  Prescriptions are only written following a medical visit.

•  Laboratory testing is *required prior* to initiating certain therapies

•  *Follow-up visits* occur at regular intervals, typically every 30 days for active medication management

We take our clinical and legal obligations seriously to protect both patient health and professional integrity.

💊 Weight Loss Medications: What’s FDA-Approved?

We prescribe *only FDA-approved medications* that are *not currently under shortage*, including:

•  *Phentermine* (short-term appetite suppressant)

•  *Topiramate/Phentermine combo (Qsymia)*

•  *Bupropion/Naltrexone (Contrave)*

•  *Liraglutide (Saxenda)* and *Semaglutide (Wegovy)*

•  *Tirzepatide (Zepbound)*

We *do not compound GLP-1s* like semaglutide unless there is:

•  An FDA-recognized shortage and

•  Full documentation from our pharmacy partners

We source our medications *ethically and transparently*, keeping patient safety our top priority.

🏥 Medicare & Medicaid Weight Loss Coverage in NC

As of now, *Medicare does not cover weight loss medications* but may cover:

•  Obesity screening and counseling for BMI ≥30

•  Nutritional therapy for diabetes or kidney disease

•  Behavioral therapy if delivered in primary care settings

*NC Medicaid* coverage may include:

•  *Behavioral weight counseling*

•  Some *nutritional consultations*

•  Possible coverage of medications on a *case-by-case basis*, depending on prior authorizations

📅 What You Can Expect From Our Program

*Initial Visit Includes:*

•  60-minute health review

•  Lab orders and vitals

•  Customized weight loss plan

•  Prescription plan (if clinically appropriate)

*Ongoing Support Includes:*

•  Monthly follow-ups

•  Lab monitoring for metabolic health

•  Nutritional and behavioral check-ins

•  Goal reassessments
